Meatymemorialdaymemories

Mmmmmm, I am still enjoying the fruits of a fantastic BBQ this weekend, I was the only jerk eating a hamburger at labmeeting. I now have successfully cooked two of the BBQ triad- Ribs and hamburgers. I need to do chicken next to complete the trinity. I also grilled a pork loin as well, but took it out 5' too late. I used my grandma's BBQ marinade on the ribs , and the burgers were done in a Teriyaki style, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup soy sauce, two eggs, saltn'pepper, and garlic powder. Very effective. I am still too lazy to make it out to late night eating, plus I have avoided eating out to save money, but groceries ain't free neither. Oh well, I can't have everything.

Tonight could be the night!

I am working late, and it is very possible that I will cruise convoy to spy places that may be open for late night dining. I am really craving food of the asian persuasion, cause all that i have been eating lately is North american food (I'm looking at you USA and mexico, and does canadian even have it's own cuisine... did someone say moose?) Oh, on the topic of asian food, I have gone to two really great sushi places, one you have probably heard about- sushi ota (excellent, and expensive) and toshisan (excellent as well, and not so expensive.) The sashimi is great at both places, but sushi ota does have a bigger variety. However, you probably won't have to wait at toshisan's. It is your call.

BBQ. the prefered cooking method of cavemen

Well, I did what I pretty much always do when I buy meat in San Diego, I BBQ'd that mo'fo. I got a nice "carne asada" marinated tri-tip from trader joes and the potato medley for $15 out the door. After work, I roasted that hunk-o-meat for one hour, and roasted the taters with olive oil, salt, pepper, paprika, cumin and bay leaves plus a little rooster sauce. That was hella tasty. Had some watermelon for dessert then called it a night.

El torito, spanish for craptastic!

Well, last night I enjoyed what passes for mexican food in San Diego. Maybe I was a little overly optimistic about the possibility eating out and joined some friends for a drink and "dinner." So, I did get something that may not even be latin in origin, the tostada. I am at a loss why you would put tortilla chips on something that comes in a giant tortilla shell. However, the company was quite interesting, and sympathetic to my quest for late night eating. I got about five places claimed to be open after 11pm for food, although one suggestion was a bar, which some may not count as a restaurant, but I will have to try the food first. I will update my list as I determine if these places are open after 11pm, and will write about the food.

I am going to make a list of places open after 11pm.

What the fuck, can I get dinner after 10pm?

Seriously, I need to find reliable, tasty, non-burger food within a 10 mile radius from UTC that is available after 11pm. Every place I call closes at 9pm. Whatthefuckupwiththat? I don't surf, so I have no reason to get up before 9am, and I usually work past 10pm, just to get the 12 hours/ day in. I would like to eat something that I don't have to order from my car, and maybe can sit down and eat with some like-hour friends? And what about getting a drink after midnight on a weekday?
